Immune Boosting Foods
Updated: Oct 10, 2024
With school back in session and colder weather coming in, our immune systems need as much help as they can get this time of year! Here are 5 foods you should be eating more of as temperatures keep dropping:
Dark Leafy Greens
Spinach, kale, chard, collard greens, beet greens, arugula, etc. are versatile nutrient powerhouses that can be enjoyed in salads, smoothies, pastas, dips, and so much more! They are especially high in vitamins A, C and K, folate, iron, and antioxidants which are all critical for good health and supporting the immune system.
Citrus Fruits
Citruses, like oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits, are a popular source for vitamin C.
Almonds
Almonds are a good source of zinc, which helps the immune system fight off viruses and bacteria. Zinc is also important for all stages of wound healing, proper growth and development, as well as learning and memory.
Root Vegetables
Root vegetables like sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, ginger, and turmeric are nutrient-packed and offer a multitude of health benefits! Rich in antioxidants, vital vitamins A, B6, C, K, and anti-inflammatory properties, root vegetables boost immune function and support many other systems of the body.
Garlic
This lovely, pungent flavor enhancer enhances immune cell function and reduces cold + flu symptoms.
